GOLDEN JUBILEE OF ACCESSION 1oz SILVER COIN 2002
This 2002 dated 1oz silver coin was produced by The Perth Mint to
celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee of Accession to the
throne. The design for this 2002 dated commemorative coin is issued
with the approval of Buckingham Palace and is legal tender under the
Australian Currency Act 1965. The coin is struck from 99.9% pure
silver and features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen
Elizabeth II on the obverse along with the monetary denomination.
The reverse shows Queen Elizabeth II on horseback during the
Trooping of the Colour, an annual ceremony that marks her official
birthday, in the center of the coin. A coloured image of the Union Jack
is shown in the background. The outer design displays a ring of Foot
Guards, who are most often seen on duty outside Buckingham Palace.
Each year one of five regiments - Grenadiers, Coldstream Guards,
Scots, Irish or Welsh Guards - displays its colour in the ceremony. The
Perth Mint's traditional 'P' mintmark is also featured in the design.
In early 1952, Princess Elizabeth, accompanied by the Duke of
Edinburgh, left England for an official visit to Australia and New
Zealand in the place of her father, King George VI, who was too ill to
travel. On the 6th of February, whilst in Kenya on the first stage of this
trip, she received news of her father's death and her own accession to
the throne. This is a stunning coin that comes to you housed in a blue,
flag shaped display case, along with a numbered Certificate of
Authenticity. The Perth Mint will only issue 40000 individually
presented coins. A beautiful coin that deserves a prize position in your
collection.
