BOER WAR SET 2003 - AUSTRALIAN'S AT WAR
Here is an absolutely brilliant collection of coins that have been brought out
by The Perth Mint as a tribute in honor of those who served their
country during five major international conflicts of the twentieth
century.
In commemoration of those who have fought and died in the Boer War, The
Perth Mint has issued this special privy mark coin, which features a
coloured representation of the Queen's South Africa Medal and ribbon.
The 2003 dated Australian Kookaburra host coin, struck in specimen
quality from 2oz of 99.9% pure silver, is legal tender under the
Australian Currency Act 1965.
The reverse design features a striking depiction of a Kookaburra, together
with the Medal reverse and ribbon in the form of a coloured privy
mark. The obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her
Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination of $2.
A miniature replica of the Queen's South Africa Medal and ribbon is
included with this Boer War Set. Featuring Britannia holding the Union
Jack and a laurel crown towards a large group of soldiers, with
warships offshore. The inscription SOUTH AFRICA appears on the
top. The obverse bears the Jubilee bust of Her Majesty Queen Victoria.
The ribbon is red with two narrow blue stripes and a broad central
orange stripe.
In tribute to all Australian service and support personnel who participated in
the Boer War, The Perth Mint has designed and produced a
commemorative Boer War Medallion featuring images associated with
the conflict. Struck from 10z of 99.9% pure silver and featuring both 3d
and colour elements, the Medallion is a unique reminder of the
personnel and fighting equipment of the era. As well as the inscription
BOER WAR 1899 - 1902, the Medallion design features a ship,
thought to be the Brier Holme, carrying the first Tasmanian contingent
of soldiers to the war; Mounted Trooper Leonard W. Matters of the 5th South
Australian Imperial Bushman's Contingent; and three Australian
soldiers standing next to a one-pounder pom pom gun in Africa in
1901. The obverse of the Medallion features the official 'Australian's
at War' emblem, reproduced with the permission of the
Commonwealth Department of Veterans' Affairs.
This collection of coins comes to you housed in a green leather look display
case with accompanying Certificate of Authenticity. There was a
limited mintage set on this collection of coins of only 1000, making
this very unique. A truly remarkable reminder of the Boer War and a
fitting tribute to those who served, this will make an astounding piece
to add to any collection.
