KOREAN WAR UNC $1 COIN IN FOLDER 2003
"C" MINTMARK

This beautiful coin has been brought out by the Royal Australian Mint to
commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of the Korean War. It has
also been brought out to honor all the veterans who took part in this
important chapter in Australia's long and distinguished war history
with the release of this very special commemorative issue.
As a founding member of the UN, Australia was among the first countries to
commit units of all three services to Korea in early July 1950, with
17000 Australians serving until the armistice ended fighting on 27th
July 1953.
The imposing vertical lines in the background of the coin design echo the
stainless steel spars around the Canberra Memorial - a symbol for the
fields of fallen - and with the floral emblems of Australia and South
Korea at either side, the dove of peace is shown emerging from this
darkest of times, representing hope for the future. These potent themes
are carried through to the outer packaging, which features a photo of
the Korean War Memorial in haunting half lit hues.
A fitting tribute to Australia's war veterans, this limited issue reflects man's
ongoing struggle for peace and remembrance of those who served and
died in its name. Incorporating themes and symbolism featured at the
Australian National Korean War Memorial in Canberra, this quietly
reflective $1 Aluminium bronze coin features the 'C' mintmark. It
comes to you complete in the customary three-panel card. This is a
stunning coin to look upon and it is a reminder of times past and the
future to come.
