STEGOSAURUS - BRONZE DINOSAUR COIN
Issued under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu, this bronze coin
depicts a Stegosaurus, based on an original illustration by Framestore
(artist Daren Horley), and the Latin inscription for Stegosaurus on the
reverse.
Stegosaurus, the 'roof lizard', was distinguished by a series of pointed plates
along its neck, back and tail. Scientists once believed the plates lay flat,
but it is now believed that they were upright and alternated from side to
side rather than being positioned in a single line. Similarly, the original
idea that the plates were used to control temperature has been replaced
by theories that they were for display and protection.
The obverse design features the Raphael Maklouf effigy of Her Majesty
Queen Elizabeth II, the 2002 year date and the monetary denomination.
Minted and inspected by The Perth Mint, this coin is struck from
bronze and comes complete to you in a slipcase. A marvelous coin to
add to your collection.
